LOS ALTOS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cerebras Systems, a company dedicated to accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) compute, today announced that Vinay Srinivas, former Vice President of Engineering at Synopsys, has joined Cerebras Systems to lead its rapidly expanding software organization.
.@CerebrasSystems Continues Rapid Expansion with Appointment of Vinay Srinivas as Vice President of Software Engineering
Vinay, a proven industry veteran, comes to Cerebras with more than 24 years of executive engineering leadership experience. A graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, Vinay has led software engineering at startups and Fortune 500 companies alike. Most recently, as Vice President of Engineering, he led the development of the rapidly growing emulation product at Synopsys.
“As Cerebras rapidly expands our engineering organization across our Silicon Valley and San Diego campuses, Vinay’s experience leading some of largest and most complex software projects in the industry makes him an exceptional fit,” said Andrew Feldman, co-founder and CEO of Cerebras Systems. “Vinay brings a rare combination of deep technical experience with the managerial chops to lead large software organizations.”
In addition to significant large-enterprise experience and discipline, Vinay is familiar with the pace and organizational needs of a startup. Prior to Synopsys he led Engineering at Archpro Design, later acquired by Synopsys, and before that, he managed Research and Development at Sequence Design for eight years (acquired by Ansys/Apache).
Vinay’s hiring continues the torrid growth for Cerebras, the Silicon Valley unicorn startup that recently announced the Wafer Scale Engine (WSE), the largest chip ever built. The Cerebras WSE is 57 times larger than the largest graphics processing unit, contains 78 times more cores, 3,000 times more on chip memory, 10,000 times more memory bandwidth and 33,000 times more fabric bandwidth. Cerebras also recently announced a partnership with the Department of Energy to deploy the WSE in the largest supercomputers in the world, thereby uniting the fastest AI processing with the fastest supercomputer.
“Cerebras is an industry pioneer, and I look forward to helping the company achieve its quest to dominate in AI acceleration,” said Vinay. “The Wafer Scale Engine is the result of fearless engineering, exceptional focus and tireless dedication to solving the problem of AI compute. I’m excited to join the Cerebras team and help define the future of AI—and to ensure that all of Cerebras’s solutions are simple to install, easy to use, and exceptionally flexible, all while delivering record breaking performance.”
About Cerebras Systems
Cerebras Systems is a team of pioneering computer architects, computer scientists, deep learning researchers, and engineers of all types. We have come together to build a new class of computer to accelerate artificial intelligence work by three orders of magnitude beyond the current state of the art. The first announced element of the Cerebras solution is the Wafer Scale Engine (WSE). The WSE is the largest chip ever built. It contains 1.2 trillion transistors and covers more than 46,225 square millimeters of silicon. The largest graphics processor on the market has 21.1 billion transistors and covers 815 square millimeters. In artificial intelligence work, large chips process information more quickly, producing answers in less time. As a result, neural networks that in the past took months to train can train in minutes on the Cerebras WSE.
